Halloween
Wind blusters and blows, speaking to all it passes
Leaves drop as if of liquid, coating, covering, hiding the ground.
Children running, shivering, rattling, laughing –
A little scared, a little happy, a lot raucous.
Smiles, fear, brave fronts and tears
Strange noises, ghostly shadows,
Strange lights – unreal colors,
Footsteps loud, but unseen.
A cat yelps. Its snarls ring out.
The dog snaps, it’s bark an alarm.
The tree creaks, sounds sharp and hard.
The leaves rustle, startling with fears of what’s under there.
Things strange and unknown surround you
Should you run?
The door creaks and then the familiar sounds
“Trick or Treat?” “Thank you I Love candy.”
