Background and Biography of the Author




K.H. Husin Qadri was born on 17 Ramadan 1327 H (1909 CE) in Martapura, the capital of Banjar Regency. He was the son of Mufti K.H. Ahmad Zaini al-Banjari, a descendant of Sultan Suriansyah, the first Muslim ruler of Banjar. He studied Islamic sciences under his father and other prominent teachers, such as K.H. Muhammad Arsyad al-Banjari, K.H. Abdul Hamid Abulung, and K.H. Muhammad Nafis al-Banjari. He also traveled to Mecca and Medina to deepen his knowledge and perform pilgrimage.


K.H. Husin Qadri was appointed as a judge (qadi) in Martapura by the Dutch colonial government in 1937. He was known for his integrity, fairness, and expertise in Islamic law. He also taught at various Islamic schools (pesantren) and mosques, and wrote several books on various topics, such as monotheism, jurisprudence, ethics, deeds, and prayers. He passed away on Friday, 27 Jumada al-Awwal 1387 H (1967 CE) and was buried in Tunggul Irang, Martapura.
